Abilities United – Goals and Programs

Abilities United pic Established in 1963, Abilities United is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and empowering persons with developmental disabilities. The organization also assists families and the wider community and strives to a foster a culture that equally values the unique contributions of each individual. It aims to empower adults and children with disabilities to lead independent and fulfilling lives, working to afford them the resources and opportunities necessary to achieve this goal.

Since its inception, Abilities United has served more than 65,000 individuals. The nonprofit focuses on maintaining strong community ties to facilitate enriching experiences for its members, encouraging community involvement and acceptance. Its vast array of programs includes children’s development services such as preschool and clinical therapy, while its family support programs include after-school programs and computer classes. Abilities United’s adult assistance spans community activities, independent living workshops, and career services. The organization also maintains an aquatic center that is equipped to offer swimming lessons, aquatic physical therapy, and fitness programs for individuals of all abilities.

Abilities United maintains certification with the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. Additionally, its volunteers have received numerous accolades, including the San Andreas Regional Center (SARC) Service Above Self Award and the SARC Recognition of Merit Award.
